Been away for a while so I may have missed some local news, but I heard a story last night that we may be about to lose another real ale outlet. Apparently, the Potarch Hotel is going to be converted in to a beauty parlour/spa. The rooms will be kept and used for the fishing seasons, but on a self-catering basis.
The current lessees of the Hotel are moving over to the restaurant at Inchmarlo Golf Club, where the 9 hole course has remained in operation all summer, despite the core business failing some time ago. Prospects for the 18 hole course and the planned luxury hotel development appear to be dim.
Just returned from a weekend Fringe-ing in Edinburgh, but we didn't really have time to stray too far from the tried and tested - Guildford/Cafe Royal/Doctor's. We did enjoy No. 1 High St., however - somewhere that had previously escaped us - nice place and good selection of 7 interesting ales, all well-kept - surprised that it doesn't have a GBG entry.
