Newcastle

From http://iansaleadventures.blogspot.com/

Took a trip down to see the final Premiership match yesterday and managed a few NE Locales in some of the pubs we'd hadn't been to before. On the walk from the train station to St. James' Park, we bypassed the Town Wall ("Toon Wa'") and also the Forth Hotel, both of which were heaving, partly due to their proximity to the station. We looked in to the Star Inn, but it appeared to be an ale-free zone, so moved on to Tilley's Bar, which initially didn't look too promising, but, on closer inspection, turned out to be more than OK, with ales from Hadrian Border Brewery (http://www.hadrian-border-brewery.co.uk) and Anarchy Brew Co (http://www.anarchybrewco.com/) amongst others, plus a good selection of craft and bottled beers from round the world. Not sure about their mini pies, however.

The Strawberry is adjacent to the stadium and is a must, if only to pick up some of the pre-match banter and atmosphere, but there's a good selection of local beers too and service is amazingly swift considering it's always mobbed.

Post-match, a quick pint at the Newcastle Arms, a proper football pub if ever there was one, again featuring local breweries, but they also had one from Cornwall - http://coastalbrewery.wordpress.com/. It was in here that we picked up copies of the local beer press - local CAMRA newletters from the Tyneside & Northumbria (Canny Bevvy) and Darlington (Darlington Drinker) branches, plus North East Cheers. The latter publication had a page devoted to news from Scotland, including a photo of Brewdog's new fermentation vessels arriving from Italy:
