Lake District again

From http://iansaleadventures.blogspot.com/

Paid another (very brief) visit to the Lake District last weekend, but we stopped off in Renfrewshire overnight on Friday on the way down and paid another quick visit to Calum's (formerly Coanes) in Johnstone High St. Very much a LocAle pub, situated close to, and prominently featuring, both Houston and Kelburn breweries' ales. Always worth a visit.

Didn't get much chance to visit many pubs down in the Lake District but managed a couple of swift halves in the Royal Oak at the end of our walk round Bowness on Windermere. Cumberland and Coniston ales were flanked by Landlord and Tetley's.

On the drive over from Windermere to Ullswater, we came across the well-known Kirkstone Pass Inn (http://www.kirkstonepassinn.com/) - "The Inn with Altitude", perched 1,500 feet up in the hills - reputedly dating from 1496. Cracking little pub, with three local ales, one of them badged as the house ale:

On a cool, damp day, Jo and I welcomed the wood burning stove:

Apart from one other, rather bland Tirrill brew at our accommodation at Whitbarrow, that was about it for our brief trip.

Next weekend is a Premiership footy trip, so look out for some reports from Manchester and Newcastle.

Cheers,

Ian
