Branch Meeting etc

From http://iansaleadventures.blogspot.com/

It was good to see a few of the CAMRA regulars in Banchory on Saturday - sorry we didn't quite manage the outdoor seating this time around! I think the O'Hanlon's Goldblade went down OK, but not many seemed to be trying the Flying Scotsman on the other pump at the Legion.

There was a triple award to the Legion for Club of the Year and our Chairman insisted that both Jas and I help to present the awards to Adam, the Steward:

The wall at the end of the bar at the Legion is now so full of local and Scottish Club of the Year awards, that they're going to run out of space soon! It's nice to see the Legion getting some recognition, but we really need to make the award more of a genuine competition each year - more clubs required.

Four local members attended the meeting on Saturday - myself and Jas, as you can see, and also Colin Kilgour and Ron McGrew. The latter revealed that he had been at Woodend Barn the previous day and had spotted a new handpump on there - could be a new outlet - watch this space.

The other slightly sad news I revealed on Saturday was that Rob James is planning to sell Deeside Brewery and go back to his day job. He had asked me to sit on this news until he had had a chance to discuss it with Ken Howie, the brewery's landlord at Deeside Activity Park, who only returned from holiday on Saturday morning. There are obviously a number of possibilities here, but Ken Howie probably holds the key just now, and it will be interesting to hear his reaction to the news.

By the time the meeting finished, the sun indeed had come out and so off we trotted down the hill to the Burnett and the Douglas for some more liquid refreshment - Mike Burton and Ian Chapman led the way as Richard Jones sped off home, without even having had a chance of a quick beer:

For most of the toonsers, it was the first -and possibly last - chance to sample the Deeside brewed house ale at the Burnett, so that was our first pit stop. Across the road, the Douglas had Caledonian Autumn Red, the usual Deuchar's and Wayfarer IPA, now badged as "Atlas range - Award winning beers from the Orkney Brewery" - it tastes a little different to me from the time when it was brewed in Kinlochbervie, but I guess that's hardly surprising.

Cheers,

Ian
