Adelaide Hills

From http://iansaleadventures.blogspot.com/

We changed our plans and, instead of going to Barossa Valley on Saturday (that's now scheduled for tomorrow), we went to the Adelaide Hills area instead - good choice. Early settlers in the area came from Germany, as witnessed by some of the town names. We headed for Lobethal and the Bierhaus there (http://www.ahcb.com.au/). The name implies a Germanic Bier Keller type of place but, in fact, it's modelled much more on the American brewpubs - especially the smaller country ones.

There were 8 beers on:

Double Hopped IPA; Devil's Choice (10.2%!); Red Truck Porter; India Pale Ale; Pale Ale; Hefeweizen;  Bohemian Philsner (sic) - a similar range to what you find in USA - and they do sampler paddles too!

The brewery itself - it's just 4 years old:

Outside, Jo and I posed:

It's part of a local Wine, Food & Beer Trail and we followed it round to take in a couple of wineries as well:

Later in the day, we headed back towards Adelaide and spotted a tourist board brown sign saying "Historic Brewery" so we stopped off to find:

Yes - it was very much shut - the sign outside said "Pike's Historic Brewery, formerly Dorset Brewery".

From there we headed down to Verdun (near Hahndorf) where Grumpy's Brewhaus (http://www.grumpys.com.au/) was. Not as smart as Lobethal, but nice atmosphere for a quiet pint in the sun:
