More Oregon ale tales

Yesterday we drove down to Medford and I picked up a couple of bottles of Pale Ale and Golden Ale from the Southern Oregon Brewing Co, where we'd been a couple of years ago, not long after it opened. On the way back to Grants Pass, I decided it might be nice to pop in and see one of the local breweries we hadn't visited before - Walkabout Brewery. I'd seen some of their beer in the local shops and it was on tap in Kaleidoscope.

Using a combination of Google and Blackberry Maps, we soon found the exact address - but it was just a suburban house in a completely residential area. We checked again and, yes, we did have the correct address - but we chickened out from actually knocking the door. Don't know what's going on here, but all search engines give the same address and decribe it variously as a brewery or brewpub with tours available.

Oh well - onwards back to Grants Pass to have a late lunch at the Wild River brewery (http://www.wildriverbrewing.com/), a place we'd been to many times before. They have a total of five outlets in Southern Oregon, with one of them just a few hundred yards away from the brewery itself where we were having lunch.

We were in luck - they had some cask conditioned beer on - a special double hopped version of their IPA - delicious it was too - ticked all the boxes for me. Only problem was that I was driving - we asked for a "Growler" to take some back to our daughter's, but they didn't have any!

They also had a new seasonal/special brew on, which I had a taste of. It was a Smoked Cherry Stout, of all things! Here's the description:

Surprisingly pleasant too - but certainly not a quaffing beer at 10% - a half pint would probably be enough anyway.

A quick mug shot of me in front of the taps and brewing equipment:

Incidentally, if the pictures don't come through on the e-mails just check out the blog at http://iansaleadventures.blogspot.com/
