The big discovery was our visit to Adelaide's Wheatsheaf Hotel (http://wheatsheafhotel.com.au/), known locally, in typical Aussie style, as "The Wheaty", home of the Wheaty Brewing Corps brewery. Great selection of micro brews plus, of course, their own, including one on cask, served via handpump:
The cask ale was described as an "RIPL" - Rye India Pale Lager - that's a new one on me. Pretty tasty though and not too strong at 5%.
We've also been to the Curious Squire - funnily enough, a James Squire outlet:
The Hop Thief was pretty good.
Much better, however, was our trip up to the Adelaide Hills yesterday to view the opening of Prancing Pony's (http://prancingponybrewery.com.au/) new brewery. Very modern building but nicely atmospheric inside and a decent selection of their brews:
Whilst there, we spotted leaflets advertising Brewery Tours - picked up by coach in Adelaide and with pit stops and tastings at 4 breweries with outlets in the Adelaide Hills - Prancing Pony, of course, plus the wonderful Lobethal Bierhaus (http://www.bierhaus.com.au/), the slightly less wonderful Grumpy's and the pretty awful Gulf Brewery outlet - all for the price of A$150 or A$165, including lunch. Not for me at this price.
The rest of our research has been in bottled format, having been to Dan Murphy's to stock up. We remembered the pretty little brewery we'd been to in the Swan Valley, WA a few years ago, so had to try this:
Another 5 weeks of dedicated research left.
