Happy New Year. After several weeks post-op without any ale, I'm back on the beer horse again, enjoying a few pints around Deeside. I didn't see anything radically new over the festive period, but Clootie Dumpling seemed to be in plentiful supply and went down well.
At home, I enjoyed a selection of Fuller's strong bottle conditioned ales, including Brewer's Reserve Oak Aged (8.5%), Vintage Ale (8.5%) and Imperial Stout (10.7%) - all very tasty.
I've recently taken on the role of local Branch Membership Secretary after Helge's move south and have become aware of the lack of e-mail addresses on CAMRA's central database for many of our local members. Of the 446 names on the current membership list for Aberdeen, Grampian & N. Isles, we have e-mail addresses for 279 (63%).
I haven't as yet had the opportunity to fully check this database against the local Yahoo membership list, which is the source of this and all e-mails from camra_aberdeen@yahoogroups.com, but I would hope that, with the help and co-operation of local members we could increase the numbers of e-mail addresses on the database.
I do, of course, appreciate the irony of appealing for e-mail addresses via e-mail, but my point is a general one to try and keep all membership records as up to date as possible and to ensure that any changes of information (including home and e-mail addresses) are advised to CAMRA locally and nationally and are thus properly reflected in our records.
Moving on .......
For those not on Facebook, Brewmeister recently posted the following:
We were on BBC radio yesterday discussing the craft beer movement. The feature starts at 34.30http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p01ngsrw
I noticed a recent press article about a substantial new investment in West Berkshire Brewery:
Another one I spotted concerned the Deeside Inn, Ballater, which I believe still has a hand pump installed, even although it hasn't been in use for some time. It's part of the Crerar Hotels Group, who have launched a Heart & Soul lager, brewed by Belhaven:
The Times and Sunday Times recently featured a promotion which offered Times + members the opportunity of "Exclusive Brewery Tours". There were 6 breweries who featured and amongst the famous names - Fuller's, Bateman's Everard's, Shepherd Neame and St. Austell - our local Deeside Brewery was listed.
