Turkish Delights?

From http://iansaleadventures.blogspot.com/

Just returned from a week's golf in Turkey. Not much to report on the beer front there - it was definitely Tuborg country. We flew from Glasgow so spent an overnight at the airport, which allowed us to try the beers in Callum's (formerly Coanes) in Johnstone High St - pretty decent selection:

Back in Deeside this week, I experienced the new, post tax increases, prices of ale. The Douglas Arms now sells beer at £3.25 per pint in the bar (£3.30 in the lounge). A little controversially, Banchory Golf Club, like many other clubs, has introduced a dual priced "loyalty" card scheme. A minimum of £30 per year has to be spent at the bar - not exactly an onerous figure - but the basic price of a pint of real ale has risen to £3.40 - higher than the Douglas for the first time ever, although members, when using their loyalty card, get it for £2.97.

The other local news I noticed in the Deeside Piper was that two hotels have gone on the market - Braemar Lodge Hotel and Deeside Hotel in Ballater. The former is apparently due to the owners retiring from the trade, whilst the latter is due to the owners moving on to a larger hotel "challenge" in England.
