London and Berkshire trip (3)

From http://iansaleadventures.blogspot.com/

The final day of our sporting weekend was spent at Lord's, followed by an evening concert at the Royal Albert Hall (C, S & N).

Lord's is easy - we knew from previous visits to stay clear of the Pavilion and other stands and head for the Nursery End - that's where they serve Marston's on handpull - and pretty good it was too, even if served in a plastic tumbler. Sitting in the hot sunshine also helps.

Lord's outdid Wimbledon on the pricing - the Pimm's here was a whopping £9 per glass!

Between the cricket and the concert we managed just one pit stop - at the Paxton's Head in Knightsbridge. They had five handpulls, but only two were operational - and one of them was the ubiquitous Deuchar's. No choice then, but to plump for the other one, which happened to be Stonehenge's Danish Dynamite, which we'd seen for the first time the previous evening at the Nag's Head. It's a pretty reasonable attempt at a Schiehallion style ale.

In the RAH itself, the only non-bottled beer they were serving was Grolsch at £4 per pint - we could barely finish half of the fizzy stuff during the interval.

So that was London. Hopefully will manage to escape from our golfing trip to Slaley Hall this weekend for a short while and try a few of the local ales down there. Small compensation for missing out on our usual summer trip to the States.
